William 'Daddy' Byrd (July 15, 1907 - January 4, 1991) was an American professional baseball player in the Negro leagues. Born in Canton, Georgia, he was a right-handed pitcher, and one of the last to legally throw the spitball. He participated in six All-Star games. Byrd also saw action in Venezuela and Puerto Rico where he was considered one of the best hurlers. He died at age 83 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[1]
